Our Story
2000
Great oaks from little acorns grow…
It was during a trip to Rodrigues Island that DSI’s founder (Frédéric Villain) realised the precious nature of water. Accustomed to the hustle and bustle of Boston, where he lived, he discovered a place where time stands still, and where only the essentials truly matter. Faced with a lack of drinking water in the middle of the Indian Ocean, it was a meeting with some women catching octopuses, happily doing their job in the heat, but without being able to drink whenever they wanted, that the climate emergency became very clear to him. Their lives were intrinsically linked to water, whilst in Boston, concerns were focused on the future of technology. This contrast marked out the path of Demand Side Instruments: Protecting the resource forever. Offering technology which saves time and opens our eyes to the most critical issues: making the earth a fair place to live for everyone.
